Giving Back

At Harrod Healthcare, philanthropy and community service are core to our culture. It is our belief that we have the responsibility to support institutions and causes making a positive impact on our communities. Harrod Healthcare employees regularly contribute time and resources to numerous volunteer organizations and charitable initiatives. Below are some of the organizations we support through contributions, board memberships, and individual participation.

National Pediatric Cancer Foundation

The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF), one of the nation’s largest children’s health charitable organizations, is a nonprofit dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. The organization was rated 100/100 and is in the top 1% of all national charities scored by Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities. All donations are put towards supporting research to fast-track less toxic, more targeted treatments by partnering with leading hospitals nationwide. NPCF-funded clinical trials are yielding amazing discoveries that are saving children’s lives. New compounds are currently being tested in these trials and hold great promise for children who have not experienced positive results under the standard treatment protocol. Since 1991, the NPCF has been a shining light for children fighting cancer by donating millions of dollars to research.

Harrod Healthcare has been involved with NPCF since 2002, with various employees serving as board members and chair positions. During the tenure of HHRE’s involvement, donations have grown over tenfold, with annual donations up from $200,000 to $2,600,000. There are currently three HHRE employees on the board of NPCF.

Academy Prep Center of Tampa

Academy is a non-profit, tuition-free, independent center for education for middle-school aged children who qualify for need-based scholarships. In the atmosphere of an extended family, Academy Prep encourages and teaches students to excel in academics, ethical and moral understanding and judgment, and life skills. The school is dedicated to educating economically-disadvantaged students by providing an academically challenging, enriching, and structured environment followed by eight years of support and guidance through high school and college.

HHRE has been involved with this important initiative since 2006. Academy Prep’s first two locations (Tampa and St. Petersburg) required extensive facility renovations to be operational. HHRE provided construction management services pro bono overseeing the renovation and negotiated various subcontractor and trades involved to provide services free or at cost. HHRE is also involved in the construction management of Academy Prep’s new campus located in Lakeland, FL.
